"I'm Dreaming of a Cash Christmas"

"This year, we DO the holidays instead of BUY the holidays."

Welcome to "I'm Dreaming of a CASH Christmas!"

Welcome everyone who signed up for our third annual "I'm dreaming of a CASH Christmas" at Cindy's Porch. This is a ton of fun (and much easier than you ever thought). I can't wait to hear your ideas and suggestions as well! Feel free to send any comments you have to cindy@cindysporch.net. Don't be surprised to see some of them included in an email to the group or posted on the website.

The goal of "I'm dreaming of a CASH Christmas" is to save enough CASH in your CASH stash between now and December so that you will never have to haul out your credit card for this year's holiday purchases. I know some of you probably already have begun a CASH stash many months ago. Good for you! As for the rest of us, we still have several months ahead of us. We can do it!

Where are we going to find this cash? That's where our creativity and ingenuity comes into play. We are going to start with the "quick cash." These are the coins and paper money that are hiding in the laundry room, folded away in an old purse, wadded up in the pockets of your winter jacket, and scattered under the mats in your vehicle. Been there, done that!

We are going to look at our kitchens, our food stash, and our dinner plans. This is where we will find most of our daily savings. Anytime we make a SMART CHANGE that saves a dollar in the kitchen, we'll have another dollar to add to our CASH stash. The goal is to find approximately 5 dollars per day. YIKES! Don't stop reading now! And quit that snickering. LOL That is why we still have many months to do this. Some days you will add 0 dollars and some days you will add 20. Are you ready to find the bottom of your freezer and the back of the refrigerator? Perhaps make a few more lunches from home? This is going to be like a huge treasure hunt. We all have treasures in our homes. We just have to find them and use them! SHOP at home FIRST.

From Cindy's Porch: A Cindy Surprise!

  1. Find a jar (I am using an old canning jar), small basket or box, or an envelop. Don't buy anything, use whatever you already have in your home. You are going to use this to grow your CASH STASH!

  2. Print out the "I'm dreaming of a CASH Christmas" and CASH STASH labels. Feel free to decorate your CASH STASH holder anyway you like. There are a few smaller labels that you can use to wrap around your credit cards... more on this later.

  3. Go into your purse, or the change pot in your car, or the bottom of the dryer, or between the sofa cushions, and hunt down some spare change. Toss it into your CASH STASH. Congratulations, your dream of a CASH Christmas has begun!

Do you have clutter in your homes? Perhaps some extra furniture that is taking up space in the garage or baby stuff and toddler toys that your school-aged children will never use again. Maybe you have a box of romance novels that have only been read once or twice. I read that the average home has nearly $3,000 worth of unwanted clutter. Let's find out how we can get rid of some of this clutter and maybe turn it into some CASH for our holiday CASH Stash. You'll never get what you paid for it, but anything is better than clutter taking up your valuable space. And yes, some of the clutter will be trash. Trash is trash. Out it goes.

Remember, anytime you choose to "DO instead of BUY", you are living the dream (play a board game with your family instead of renting movies and buying pop and chips). Anytime you choose to "SHOP at home FIRST" instead of "shop in a store first" you are living the dream (find an empty jar at home instead of buying a new cute plastic container). You will be amazed at how a few small SMART changes are going to turn into big changes for you and your family.

Best of luck everyone. I know we can do it!
Cindy
