Put Your Hardhat On - We are Deep Cleaning!
Every once in awhile, we need to roll up our sleeves and spend a little more than just a few minutes on a room. That's when it is time for the "deep clean." How often do I deep clean? It depends on the room. The kitchen and the bathrooms are done the most often. Then the kid's rooms. Then the family room, living room, and the master bedroom. The garage is done twice a year - in the spring and in the fall. The basement is done when I can't stand it anymore LOL.
How does the "deep clean" work? First off, you only select ONE room to deep clean. Print out the step by step instructions and go to it. If you don't have time to finish the list, mark of where you are and head back later. When you are done, the room will feel fresh and new again. I have to thank my husband here. Before any of these instructions were posted on Cindy's Porch, he tested them (what a cool way to get your guy to deep clean the house eh?) Anyways, his suggestions and ideas to make deep cleaning a little more "man friendly" are included here. Also, we included hints as to how to get your kids involved.
Note from Cindy: We have just added the Master Bedroom - Enjoy!
The Bathroom
Deep Cleaning the Bathroom (Cindy's Version - read this first): It doesn't matter if your home has one bathroom or three. Or if it is small, large, old or new. All bathrooms look great when they shine! (They look even better by candlelight - your own personal spa!)
Deep Cleaning the Bathroom (Guy Friendly Version): My husband recommended some "word changes" to make the deep cleaning instructions a bit shorter and a little less overwhelming...Enjoy!
The Laundry Room
Simplify Your Laundry: Quick tips to help you get through those loads of laundry a little faster!
Deep Cleaning the Laundry Room: If it has been years since you put a little shine on your washer and dryer, you are going to be amazed at the transformation from Laundry "Pit" to Laundry "Room" after it has been deep cleaned! Have fun!
The Front Closet (or any closet with "SHOP at home FIRST" stuff in it!)
Deep Cleaning the Front Closet: Find out how the "Case of the Missing Mitt" results in TWO cleaned out closets during the space of one evening TV program! (including before and after photos - YIKES!)
The Kitchen (Oh no! We are going in! LOL!)
Surface Cleaning in the Kitchen: You are about to look at the routine our family uses to clean our kitchens. Sometimes I do it, sometimes my husband does it, and sometimes the kids do it. Usually, we just all pitch in and get it done as fast as we can. The dogs take care of the crumbs on the floor. Just kidding. By following the same steps everytime, we can get our kitchen cleaned up in about 10 minutes. It takes longer to sit around wishing the maid would drop in to take care of things LOL!
Deep Cleaning the Kitchen: Kitchen and clutter go hand in hand. Gadgets, utensils, cups, dishes, baskets, napkins, towels, cleaning supplies, papers, trash, car keys, unopened mail, school newsletters, backpacks, shopping bags, groceries, spices, and more! It all ends up in the kitchen. If you can't find the turkey baster or the cookie baking sheet or that fancy serving dish you bought last year, then the deep clean is for you. Don't try to do it all at once - YIKES! Just one cupboard at a time. Don't start another cupboard before the first one is done. Double yikes! Have fun - who knows what wonderful treasures you are going to discover within your kitchen! Keep your eyes open for platters, serving spoons, and dishes that you can use for the holidays. SHOP at home FIRST!
The Master Bedroom (YIKES!)
Are you expecting a flood? Trust me, this is not what you want your new husband to say to you when he looks into the bedroom. Everything you need to know about the Master Bedroom (Almost LOL). Read on...
The Daily Pick Up: There is something comforting about starting the day by making the bed and then knowing, no matter what happens during the day, that fresh clean bed is waiting for you at the end of the day. You are going to be amazed at how quickly this room pulls together when you start with the NOT ME FIVE!
